Psychiatric Recovery at Stepping Stones Recovery Center
Stepping Stones provides adult group education to individuals who need help managing the symptoms of serious mental illness.
Services include pre-vocational units that teach teamwork, along with specialized educational groups focusing on health and
wellness, exercise, nutrition, independent living skills, and leisure skills. Community integration trips are also an important
part of the education process. A team of trained staff work side by side with individuals to help them achieve treatment goals
and to increase quality of life.

Mental Health Supports at Oasis
Oasis offers Mental Health Supports to adults with serious mental illness. A qualified staff member works one on one with
individuals to teach them how to develop coping skills, access community resources, develop a natural support system, and
locate safe and affordable housing. Staff members also teach cooking skills, laundry and cleaning skills, nutrition, health
and safety, budgeting skills, and community leisure skills. Individuals work toward attaining their goal of independence in
the community.

Recovery Care Coordination
Recovery Care Coordination provides guidance for individuals with serious mental illness who are in recovery. Services
teach individuals to manage symptoms, recognize early warning signs, and anticipate stressors. Services provide crisis intervention,
supportive counseling, and access to needed resources while helping to prevent hospitalization, and teaching individuals how
to maintain a natural support system.

Mental Health Outpatient Services
Mental Health Outpatient Services are designed to provide an array of outpatient services for individuals who’s emotional
and mental health challenges have caused significant impairment in social, vocational, educational and/or family functioning
but who do not require hospitalization. A variety of groups, as well as individual and family centered services, are available
and are chosen according to a customized plan which focuses on the needs of each individual.

Autism Services and Other Related Disorders
Highlands Community Services is on the cutting edge of treatment for those with Autism and Autism related disorders. Services
offered include, but aren’t limited to, Infant & Toddler Connection, Sensory Integration Therapy, Social Skills
Group, Play Therapy, Psychiatric Evaluation & Medication Management, and more.

Project Jane Domestic Violence Services
Project Jane provides an array of services for victims of domestic/sexual violence and their dependent children. Services
also provide necessary clinical interventions for identified perpetrators of the abuse. The project also addresses the

Crisis Stabilization at Highlands Home Recovery Center
Highlands Home Recovery Center provides Crisis Stabilization Services for persons at risk of hospitalization, jail or homelessness.
The focus is on assisting individuals in recovery to manage their symptoms, decrease stressors, and increase supports by focusing
on what's strong, not what's wrong.

as well as medication consultations with our qualified psychiatrists and nurse practitioners.

Peer Support Services
Peer Support Services are offered by consumers who have completed a training program through the Virginia Human Services
Training Program in Charlottesville, VA. They have also been trained as WRAP facilitators and offer Wellness Recovery Action
Training to people in the Care Coordination Department. Two men who make up this unit also visit Southwest Virginia Mental
Health Center every Friday to visit with patients from the Highlands catchment area, remind them they are not forgotten and
stimulate them to embrace their recovery by telling them about services available back home.
